The building is located adjacent the school’s major outdoor recreation space. It is designed as a pavilion and its plan and location are designed to focus the major entry and café terrace spaces away from bad weather. A major veranda and north-east facing terrace forecourt, as well as the landscaped area beyond provides a place for entry, café al fresco dining and outdoor function space. The café space is designed to be both naturally ventilated when the conditions are right and air conditioned in extreme weather conditions. Natural light is introduced to the café and seminar spaces via generous windows that open up to the outdoor terrace. Mechanical services plant equipment is located within a concealed space under the large roof eaves overhang to eliminate the need for roof access.
