2009 AIA Davis Langdon Award for Small Project Architecture (WA)
This facility comprises a new workshop with 30 MIG and TIG welding bays, two demonstration booths and associated minor storage for the metal trades training area on the Thornlie campus. Skylights provide daylight to the central preparation and demonstration areas, and artificial task lighting is provided to each welding bay. The welding workshop can be naturally ventilated, while welding fumes are removed via dedicated welding bay exhaust hoods. The building is designed to suit the existing palette of concrete blockwork and Colorbond metal used in buildings throughout the campus.
